From Brooklyn Works to Brooklynism

May – July 2019

Group project exploring the history and gentrification of the post-industrial area of Kelham Island. Ten composers associated with the city of Sheffield worked collaboratively toward the building of a shared online catalogue of field recordings made in and around Kelham Island Museum, home of the most powerful steam engine in the world. We then used this material individually to compose electroacoustic pieces. The resulting compositions were showcased at the event Steal: Away: Home. My piece, titled Acqua Calda (09:48), featured extensive use of various digital distortion techniques in order to explore the narrative of water turning into steam and other imaginary states of aggregation. In November 2019 Acqua Calda was performed as part of Sheffield bi-annual electroacoustic concert Sound Junctions.
