Sinfonidria is a sound installation which uses meteorological, hydrological and structural data gathered at the Ridracoli dam (Emilia-Romagna, Italy) to generate a musical soundscape in real-time. It existed as an online live stream from May 2017 until May 2021.
The main idea behind the piece was to transform the dam into a huge musical instrument played by the weather, the water which it contains and the land on which it stands.
This was achieved making use of the dam’s measuring and monitoring devices, building a sonification system which is effected both by the behaviour of the built structure and by the environment and wilderness that surround it.
Sinfonidria was created in collaboration with musician and sound artist Yas Clarke and was supported by Romagna Acque SDF and Romagna Musica.
